What are the different types of orthopedic care?

Orthopedic care can take many forms. For some patients, lifestyle changes and physical therapy rehabilitation can help retrain damaged muscles and tendons and build strength in weakened joints. We are also proud to offer platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections that can stimulate the body’s natural healing response to support faster recovery than ever before. Our doctors understand that every patient they treat is unique and will require a treatment plan that is tailored to their needs. At NorthShore Orthopedics, we believe in taking the time to appropriately evaluate your condition, so that we can make precise recommendations regarding your care. We believe that surgical intervention and long-term use of prescription medication should be a last resort whenever possible.

A fracture is usually the result of trauma, a fall or a direct blow to the body. The severity of a fracture usually depends on the force that caused the break. A bone may be completely fractured or partially fractured in several different ways. Treatment for fractures may include a splint, cast or surgery, depending on the severity and location of the break.

KNEE ARTHROSCOPY
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows doctors to examine tissues inside the knee. During an arthroscopic procedure, a device known as an arthroscope is inserted into a small incision in the knee. Through this tube, a thin fiberoptic light, magnifying lens and tiny video camera are inserted, allowing the doctor to examine the joint in great detail. Arthroscopy may be a diagnostic procedure following a physical examination and imaging tests such as MRI or CT scans or X-rays. It may also be used as a method of treatment to repair small injuries in the knee.
